One of India's largest private banks is now making its own drinking water — straight from the air.

ICICI Bank has deployed MEGHDOOT® Atmospheric Water Generators across five of its offices, producing 8,000 litres of fresh, potable water every day and serving around 4,200 employees. The units are running in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and two locations in Chennai turning everyday humidity into clean drinking water at the point of use.

Water made from thin air

MEGHDOOT® works by drawing in ambient air and condensing the moisture it carries into water. That water then passes through a multi-stage purification train and is remineralised at the end of the process, delivering drinking water that is 100% microbe-free, fresh and clean without drawing a single litre from groundwater, municipal lines or plastic bottles.

Because the technology is built for real-world conditions, the units keep producing year-round, operating across a wide ambient range of 18°C to 45°C and 25% to 100% relative humidity. That resilience is exactly what makes atmospheric water generation viable at scale across India's varied climates.

A natural fit for ICICI's sustainability goals

For ICICI Bank, the installation is part of a broader environmental commitment. The Bank follows a 4R philosophy — reduce, reuse, recycle and responsible disposal — and has set a target of becoming carbon neutral in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by FY2032.

"It is estimated that the atmospheric moisture holds several times the fresh water in all rivers on the planet. To leverage this renewable resource, we have installed the AWGs at our offices to convert water vapour into drinking water. This initiative reduces our dependence on packaged water." Mr. Soumendra Mattagajasingh, Group Chief Human Resources Officer, ICICI Bank

By replacing packaged and tankered water with on-site generation, the Bank cuts plastic waste, removes delivery logistics, and gives its teams a dependable supply of safe drinking water.

Decentralised water, delivered

The ICICI Bank deployment is a powerful example of what MEGHDOOT® was built for: clean, decentralised drinking water generated exactly where people need it. From corporate campuses to ports, railways and remote communities, Maithri Aquatech is proving that the air around us can be a reliable source of safe water.
